Red started paddling and competing in the sport of Outrigger Canoe in 2011 and later in 2014 was introduced to various paddle sports such as SUP, Surfski/K1, High Kneel Canoe/C1, Indian War Canoe and Dragonboat paddling. Since then he has sought out wisdom and training from some of the best paddlers and coaches in the world. Having spent ten years in the United States Marine Corps, Red participated in many leadership and training courses to help better refine his role as a leader of Marines. His role as an instructor was sought out by various institutions within the Department of Defense and he was awarded numerous citations of commendations for his efforts. Combining his military experience along with knowledge gained from a number of renowned paddling athletes/coaches, he now shares that wisdom and acts as a paddle technique coach for various paddling disciplines. Red Pedrick is also a certified Level 1 Coach under the American Canoe Association (ACA) which is officially the National Governing Body (NGB) for the Olympic sports of slalom and sprint and the Paralympic sport of parcanoe within the United States; in addition he is also an International Canoe Federation (ICF) Level 1 Coach. The ICF is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide and is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
